Congratulations to all of the couples recently engaged during this beautiful holiday season! If you are planning a 2015 wedding, then it is important to start booking the key vendors that will help you to make your vision for your wedding a success. Most of my clients seem to be booking their photography a year to 18 months in advance, but I still have some dates available in 2015 in the next 6-9 months. I only take 15-20 wedding photography commissions per year to keep my work fresh and unique and tailored towards the individual couple.
I realize that most people have never planned a wedding before and so I’d like to provide a few tips. One is to think about your overall budget. Make a pie graph with your budget at the top, and then list the important things for your wedding. Is food most important, a dress, or the photography? How much of a percentage of the total pie will you dedicate to these? A professional wedding planner can help you with this process and I recommend having one to save your sanity if you are a busy person. Wedding planners can help you with selecting the best vendors for your budget too. This is a great guide to the 63 Top Wedding Planners from Martha Stewart Weddings (so excited that a wedding I photographed in Denver last summer will be featured on Martha Stewart in early 2015!). I can help you too with some recommendations as I have experience working with and knowing some personally. I have photographed weddings from $10,000-$100,000 total budget where the photography was important and they budgeted 40-60% on their photography, to weddings of $100,000+ where their photography budget was 10%-20%.
Another tip is to have an engagement session. This is a great way for you to see what it will be like to be photographed and for you to connect with your photographer.
Again, congratulations and looking forward to getting to know you soon!
