A favorite part of the wedding day for me to photograph is absolutely the bridal preparations. I love the excitement, the nervousness, the emotion of it! I prefer to photograph this part photojournalist style. This means the bride, and all present, should act as if I’m not there and just go on with the preparations. I want to capture those emotions and the relative calmness of this time.

To illustrate my approach, I chose some photographs from Niamh and Nicky’s wedding. Niamh is a stunning woman and she made a gorgeous bride. Even though her wedding day was cold and rained out, we were still able to capture those beautiful moments. I love that Niamh was relaxed for this part of the day. Her elegant composure made for some beautiful photographs! She had all of her personal details laid out and ready to photograph before I arrived which was fantastic! I didn’t need to go hunting these down. Also, her room was clean and clutter free, which makes a big difference to the photographs.

When the bride is fully dressed, then it is time for some “formal” portraits. I love to set these up and pose the bride so that she feels and looks like a beautiful woman in a painting! For all of those who love details, Niamh’s couture wedding dress is from Amanda Wakely. Her Tom Ford perfume, Diptyque candle, and simple baby’s breath wreath on the door really set an elegant bridal prep scene.
